Holiday lights on a Whistler chalet, installed before the snow
In Whistler, the best time to put up holiday lights is before the snow makes rooflines dangerous. Here's how we plan it.

This story describes a typical situation we see in Whistler, not one specific customer.
The situation
A chalet-style home in Alpine Meadows has steep gables, a big front window and a row of evergreens along the drive. The owners spend the holidays there with family and wanted lights up and working before they arrived in December.
Doing it themselves meant climbing a steep, possibly icy roof, which wasn't an option.
Why timing matters here
Steep chalet roofs shed snow, and snow guards and heat cables are common. Working on those rooflines is much safer before the snowpack builds.
We plan Whistler installations for late fall where possible. If snow arrives first, we adjust the design toward lines that can be reached safely from the ground or a ladder.
How we install
Lights follow the gables and eaves, secured with whichever method suits each surface best: purpose-made clips, fine staples or fasteners. We route around snow guards and heat cables rather than attaching to them.
Evergreens along the driveway are wrapped, and everything runs to existing outdoor outlets on timers.
No roof work in icy or unsafe conditions.
After the season
Removal is scheduled at installation. For owners who aren't in town, we can remove lights without you there and send photos when it's done.
Questions we hear
Can you install lights while I'm away?
Yes, as long as we can reach the outdoor outlets. We'll send photos once they're on.
What if it's already snowed?
We'll adjust the plan to what can be reached safely, and avoid roof work in icy conditions.
