Squamish · Gutter cleaning
Conifer needles and a Garibaldi Highlands gutter that fills twice a year
On the slopes above Garibaldi Estates, needles don't stop falling in autumn. Here's why one cleaning a year often isn't enough.

This story describes a typical situation we see in Squamish, not one specific customer.
The situation
A family in the Garibaldi Highlands has tall firs and hemlocks along the back of the lot. Their gutters were cleaned in October, yet by March the back gutter was overflowing again, and there was a ring of moss growing along the shingles right above it.
They assumed the first cleaning hadn't been done properly. In fact, the trees had simply kept shedding all winter.
What conifers do to gutters
Deciduous trees drop their leaves over a few weeks. Conifers shed needles, cones and bits of moss all year, with extra after every windstorm. That debris breaks down into a dense sludge that holds water and grows more moss.
On sloped Highlands lots, the downhill side of the house often has the tallest wall, which makes those gutters the hardest to reach and the easiest to forget.
How we approach it
Every run is cleared by hand, including the inside corners and the area behind the downspout outlet where sludge collects.
Downspouts are flushed and checked for flow. If moss is growing on the shingles above a gutter, we'll mention it; roof moss and gutter debris are usually connected.
For homes like this, we recommend a fall clean once the leaves are down plus a spring clean after the winter storms. It's quicker and cheaper than letting the gutters pack solid, and autumn spots fill quickly, so book early.
What to expect
Clear gutters, flowing downspouts and debris hauled away, or left at your compost where it's accessible. We'll also give you an honest view on whether roof moss is starting to become an issue.
Questions we hear
Can you set up a twice-a-year schedule?
Yes. For homes under conifers, a fall and spring visit is what we recommend.
Is the moss on my roof related?
Often. Moss on the roof sheds into the gutters, and wet gutters encourage moss along the roof edge.
