A steep driveway and natural stone paths in Caulfeild
In western West Vancouver, driveways can be steep and walkways are often natural stone. Both need more care than a flat concrete pad.

This story describes a typical situation we see in West Vancouver, not one specific customer.
The situation
A Caulfeild home sits below the street, reached by a steep concrete driveway that has gone dark and slick with algae. From the parking area, a natural stone path winds through the garden to the front door, its joints full of moss.
The owners wanted it safe to walk on through the winter, without damaging the stone they'd chosen for the garden.
Steep driveways
On a steep pad, water and cleaning solution run downhill fast. We work from the top down, keep the run-off away from the garage and garden beds, and take care with footing and hoses on the slope.
A rotary surface cleaner gives an even finish on concrete without the stripes that hand wands can leave.
Natural stone
Natural stone varies a lot. Some is hard and takes pressure well; some is soft, layered or set in sand and can be damaged or loosened by too much force.
We always test a small, out-of-the-way area first. For delicate stone, we use lower pressure with a cleaning solution that breaks down moss and algae so it rinses away without blasting.
Moss in the joints is removed, and we'll let you know if any joints need re-filling afterwards.
What to expect
A driveway with better grip, stone paths that look like stone again, and clean-up of the debris we washed out. Sealing is a separate job and only done when agreed in writing.
Questions we hear
Will you damage my stone?
Not if we can help it. That's why we test first and adjust pressure and method to the stone.
How long before moss comes back?
On shaded paths it can return within a year or two. A yearly clean keeps it under control.
