Planning holiday lights for an Edgemont home before the first frost
Mature trees, peaked rooflines and a long December: Edgemont homes make great canvases for holiday lights. Here's how we plan one.

This story describes a typical situation we see in North Vancouver, not one specific customer.
The situation
A homeowner a few streets from Edgemont Village had put lights up themselves for years, balancing on a ladder on a wet November weekend. This year they wanted it done properly: the main roofline, the front peak, and the big tree by the driveway, without having to climb anything.
They also wanted it gone again in January without another weekend on the ladder.
Planning the design
We start with a walk around the house. Which rooflines can be seen from the street? Where are the outdoor outlets? Which tree is the focal point?
A clean outline of the main rooflines with one or two features almost always looks better than covering every surface. In this case: the roofline and peak, the front tree, and a short run along the porch railing.
How we install
Strands are secured with whichever method gives the cleanest, most secure result on each surface: purpose-made clips, fine staples or fasteners.
Cable runs are kept tidy and routed to existing outdoor outlets, with the load spread so no single outlet is overloaded. If a new outlet is needed, that's work for an electrician, and we'd flag it before installation.
Timers are set so the display comes on at dusk and switches off at night on its own.
No roof work in icy conditions. If the weather turns, we reschedule or work from the ground.
After the holidays
Removal is booked at installation, typically early in the new year. We supply all the lights ourselves, custom-cut to your rooflines, with strands and bulbs matched to the style of the house for a uniform, professional look. We don't install customer-supplied lights, and if anything fails during the season, we fix it.
Questions we hear
When should I book?
Early. The season is short, running from October through the holidays, and installation dates fill quickly once October arrives.
Can you light a tall tree?
Usually. Very tall trees can need extra equipment, which we confirm when quoting.
